Slow Cooker Taco Chili


Cold days call for hot meals.  This chili will heat things up in more than one way. It wasn't too spicy but it did leave a nice zing in your mouth.


I like to make my own taco seasoning as I have all the ingredients on hand. Feel free to make your own or use a store bought seasoning packet.




Taco Chili Recipe

1 large onion, chopped
1 can black beans, drained and rinsed
1 can kidney beans, drained and rinsed
1 can tomato sauce (16 oz)
2 cups frozen corn or a can of corn
2 cans Rotel with green chiles
Taco Seasoning **
2 lbs. chicken breasts

**Taco Seasoning
3 tbsp. chili powder
1 tbsp. cumin
1 tsp. garlic powder
1 tsp. onion powder
1/2 tsp crushed red pepper
1 tsp. oregano
1 1/2 tsp. paprika
2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. pepper

Combine everything in a slow cooker and cook on low for 10 hours or high for about 6 hours.  Half hour before serving, remove chicken and shred.  Return chicken to slow cooker and stir. 

Total calories = 2500 calories
14 cups = 179 calories per cup

  5. This sounds so good, and simple, and I love that you used chicken instead of ground beef-no cooking before cooking, you know? Recipes that require browning meat before slow-cooking annoy me! lol Thanks, I will have to try this!

  9. Believe it or not, I have only just started using a slow cooker, but oh my goodness I love it! Your recipe sounds absolutely scrumptious - love the spices, and it's a nice change to have chicken in chili instead of beef. Thank you for sharing this post with the Hearth and Soul hop.
