BSI Round Up & Winner - Ground Turkey

So this weeks BSI Blogger Secret Ingredient is Ground Turkey.  We eat a lot of ground turkey around here so it is an ingredient near and dear to me.  Well, not as near and dear as cheesecake but who ever heard of a ground turkey cheesecake!

I am relieved so see that not one felt the desire to be outwardly creative this week and create a dessert out of ground turkey.  Everyone made wonderful meals and I am eager to show them off!

First up below is Dana's Mozzarella Stuffed Turkey Meatloaf from Food for Thought!  She uses the spinach and grated onion to keep the ground turkey moist.  She says, "The gooey cheesy layer in the middle doesn’t hurt either!"

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Up next below is Robin's Deep Dish Spaghetti from Penny Pinching Provisions. Spaghetti is a huge hit here so I know the family would love this! She says that it is very inexpensive and feeds them for dinner and lunch the next day!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Next below is another awesome ground turkey meatloaf. This is from Lisa, from The Pursuit of Happiness. It's a Healthy Turkey and Spinach Meatloaf.  This one is rolled out with the stuffing inside! It looks positively gorgeous! Yum!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Alisa from One Frugal Foodie has 2 fantastic ground turkey recipes!  First is Sloppy Joses over Polenta.  Her husband says that adding the Worcestershire sauce gives ground turkey more meaty flavor. I usually add it but now I know why!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Alisa also submitted her Turkey Breakfast Sausage. I try to avoid the fatty sausage and this seems to be a tasty alternative!  It's nice to have a tasty low fat option!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here we have Brie and Granny Smith Turkey Burgers on Homemade Pretzel Rolls from Eats Well With Others.   Joanne says that they completely blew her mind and she built a shrine for them.  That must be a seriously good turkey burger!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here we have Biz's Turkish Boregi from Biggest Diabetic Loser. It's a minced meat hand pie that Turkish vendors typically sell on the street. She says they are light and flakey and after the first few bites, you start to feel the heat!  They look delicious!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here is an awesome Parmesan Turkey Meatloaf recipe from Veronica from Recipe Rhapsody. She hasn't made this since she has started blogging so she doesn't have a picture but it's a recipe she's made often!  She even has the nutritional stats which I LOVE!

Parmesan Turkey Meatloaf

Makes 8 Servings

1 tbsp. olive oil
1 onion, chopped
1 bell pepper, chopped
1 ¼ pounds ground skinless turkey
4 slices whole-wheat bread, made into fine crumbs*
½ cup fat-free milk (I'd actually use half this as it seemed too wet last time)
1 egg white, lightly beaten
3 tbsp. ketchup
2 tbsp. grated parmesan cheese
½ tsp. garlic powder
½ tsp. dried basil
¼ tsp. dried thyme leaves, crumbled
¼ tsp. salt
¼ tsp. freshly ground pepper

½ cup tomato sauce
2 tsp. Splenda

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Heat the oil in a non-stick skillet and sauté onion and bell pepper until tender, 4-5 minutes.

In a medium bowl, combine the onion and bell pepper with the remaining ingredients (except for tomato sauce and Splenda) and blend well. Shape into a loaf and transfer to a 8 x 5” loaf pan. Mix tomato sauce with Splenda and spread on top. Bake until browned and cooked through, 50-60 minutes. Let stand 10 minutes before slicing.

*To make soft bread crumbs, tear fresh bread into pieces and put in a blender or food processor. Process until fine crumbs.

This is a Persian Chelo Kebab from The Delshad Duo.  She says it's perfect for the grill and practically melts in your mouth!

Lastly are my Pizza Roll Up Burritos.  These are a fantastic alternative to the greasy, fatty frozen snacks.  They freeze well too if you wanted to make a bunch of them ahead.

There are some great recipes here!! We eat ground turkey so any and all of these recipes I would totally love to try.  But I'm judging the winner based on what recipe I would love to make the most and I pick Lisa as the winner from The Pursuit of Happiness.  Her meatloaf just seems to have exactly what we would love.  Though seriously, they all look awesome! So Lisa, email me with your name and address and I'll send you a little something for your win!

Next weeks host is Veronica from Recipe Rhapsody.  She will have the honor of picking the next Blogger Secret Ingredient.  Head on over to her blog tomorrow to find out what it is!  Or catch up on Biz's blog to find out more!

  1. You got some really great submissions! Your pick is so gorgeous--I never would have thought of rolling up a meatloaf with filling like that. So creative! I would also like to try the sausage--turkey sausage has been on my to do list for a while--and that burger that has it's own shrine--lol!

  3. Oh Debbi, all of these look so great. I was busy baking bread and cupcakes this week because we had a lot of cloudy days and cooler weather so it felt fun to get to use the oven, but wish someone had been making me one of these for dinner. Everything looks yum.
